SECURITY – OUR RESPONSIBILITY

The security of your personal information and your education history is of utmost importance to AFP/PRI. We maintain strict security standards and procedures to prevent unauthorized access to your information:

The Security of Our Systems

·                     SSL Encryption

AFP/PRI utilizes Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Encryption for authenticating to its Risk Management E-Learning Environment.  This encryption is based on Server-Gated Cryptography certificates enabling 128- or 256-bit encryption.  The level of encryption is dependant upon the ability of the operating system / browser that is connecting the site.  256-bit encryption provides the highest and most secure form of data security available on the Internet today. Encryption converts your data (i.e. your user name / password) into an encoded form before it's sent over the Internet. The encryption helps keep your information private between the system that supports AFP/PRI’s Risk Management E-Learning Environment and your Internet browser.

·                     Digital Certificates
To protect your computer and your account information, AFP/PRI utilizes Digital Certificates for authentication. One form of a digital certificate is a randomly generated set of characters that our computer sends to your browser. The browser on your computer stores this information and uses it to verify that the Internet address is actually AFP/PRI’s and not someone masquerading as AFP/PRI. A Digital Certificate can be used in the same way a passport or driver's license is used as a means to establish identity.  The data embedded in a digital certificate is verified by a certificate authority and digitally signed with the certificate authority’s digital certificate.

·                     Verisign Utilized As Certificate Authority
AFP/PRI utilizes Verisign Inc. and its line of intelligent infrastructure services to support the SSL Encryption and Digital Certificate technology that is utilized in AFP/PRI’s Risk Management E-Learning Environments.    Verisign Inc. is a recognized leader in the intelligent infrastructure services segment.  All of AFP/PRI’s Risk Management E-Learning Environments prominently display the Verisign seal.

·                     Firewalls
Firewall technology is utilized to protect the computer systems that support AFP/PRI’s Risk Management E-Learning Environments.  Such technology helps prevent potentially destructive information from entering these systems.  The technology is also useful in protecting these systems from unauthorized access.

Keeping Your Online Sessions Secure

·                     Secured Sessions
Your AFP/PRI E-Learning session is protected in a "secured" environment through Secured Socket Layer (SSL) encryption.  SSL technology is used within your e-learning session to encrypt your personal information before it leaves your computer to insure no one else can read it. Depending on your browser setting, a pop-up window will appear to notify you that you will be entering a secured page. You will know when you are on a secured page when you see the "https://" before the web address. A padlock symbol in the lower right hand corner of your browser window will also be present. A closed padlock indicates that your online session is in a "secured" environment.
In addition, browsers capable of supporting Extended Validation Certificates will display a green address bar with the name of the organization that owns the SSL Certificate and the name of the Certificate Authority that issued it. The green bar shows site visitors that the transaction is encrypted and the organization has been authenticated according to the most rigorous industry standard.  Critical pages using SSL security include the pages used to transmit user names and passwords, and e-commerce transactions.

·                     Log-In and Password Feature
To make accessing your AFP/PRI Risk Management Education E-Learning Environment safe and secure, we require that you use a User Name and Password to log in.  This information is then authenticated by information stored in the Learning Management System utilized by AFP/PRI to verify who you are before providing account access.

SECURITY – YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

At AFP/PRI, the security of your information is important. Our systems and security procedures are designed to keep your personal and educational data confidential at all times. You also have a significant role to play and should adopt the following practices to help keep your personal and educational information protected from unauthorized use:

Keep Your Internet E-Learning Session Secure

·              Your Log In Information
Your AFP/PRI E-Learning Log In information (User Name and Password) is your access to your e-learning courseware and information online. Keep your Log In information confidential. Your password should be something you can easily remember but not easily guessed by someone else. Avoid using family names, birth dates, telephone numbers or words that could easily be guessed. Longer passwords are more secure and more difficult to guess, and we suggest you mix letters, numbers, and special characters to provide additional complexity.  Protect the privacy of your password and change it every 60 days.

·              Log off and Browser
Always remember to Log Off AFP/PRI’s Risk Management E-Learning Environment and to close your browser when you have finished conducting an online e-learning session. This will help prevent others from being able to view your information at a later time. If you suspect any unusual account activity, please contact us immediately.  You can find AFP/PRI contact information by clicking on the Contact Us link on the left hand navigation bar of this page.

Adopt Best Practices Online

·              Do not share your AFP/PRI Risk Management E-Learning User Name and Password with anyone.

·              Be aware that there are many Internet "phishing" scams that forge or "spoof" other reputable sites and are designed to lure you into providing personal and financial information for identity theft purposes. Only provide information that you initiate through an application, an online transaction or through the normal Log In/Registration process.   Please contact us immediately if you receive suspicious email that purports to be from AFP/PRI or its Risk Management Education Department.  You can find AFP/PRI contact information by clicking on the Contact Us link on the left hand navigation bar of this page.

·              Change your Password on a regular basis - at least every 60 days.

·              Never input personal information on a web site form or application that does not display the https:// before a web site address or a "padlock" symbol in the lower right hand corner of the web page. These security symbols indicate that the site is secured by encryption technology and the information you enter is protected.

·              Always "Log Off" AFP/PRI’s Risk Management E-Learning Environment first, and then close your browser after every online e-learning session by selecting the "x" in the upper right corner of your screen.

Protect Your Computer

·              Install Firewall software on your home and networked computers to prevent unauthorized individuals from gaining access to your computer system to use files, obtain personal information or to destroy computer data. This is especially important on computers that use a broadband connection to access the Internet (Cable modems, DSL, or wireless broadband). Since your Internet connection is on when your computer is on, the risk for malicious activity to your computer increases. Three popular sources for firewall software are Symantec, McAfee and Computer Associates®.

·              Run an Anti-Virus program on your computer on a regular, frequent basis to detect computer viruses or worms that may have enter your computer system. Purchase programs that automatically upgrade your virus protection on a regular basis.

·              Don't share access to your computer with strangers. Disable the 'File and Printer Sharing' capabilities on your computer to prevent anyone on the Internet from browsing or deleting your computer files. Check your computer's User Guide for instructions specific to your setup, or go online to the manufacturer for instructions.

·              Regularly check your computer manufacturer's (hardware/operating system) Web site for "patches" and "updates" to your system or browser to insure your computer system has the latest security upgrades installed.

·              Learn about computer infections and be aware of the latest computer viruses, worms, Trojan Horses, ad-ware, and other malicious programs designed to damage your computer or steal your personal information.

·              Don't open e-mail or e-mail attachments from unknown sources. Scan e-mail through your anti-virus software first.
